The purpose of this nationwide competition and post-competition exhibition was a confrontation of young professional artists whose works are satirical-humorous interpretations of the theme: "Portrait of Poles. Image after 20 years of Freedom". The event is a continuation of similar projects (in 2004) and at the same time part of a string of anniversary celebrations commemorating the turning point of modern Polish history, which was the year 1989. Organisers of the competions - the Museum of Caricature and SPAK (The Association of Polish Caricaturists) by asking the young artists (age range of participants is 18-35) were to promote young talents, as well as highlight the socio-political context of contemporary art. They wanted to reinforce the awareness of the society and the artists of the position of satirical-humorous drawings and caricatures as a full visual art discipline. The status of the project raised the honorary patronage of Minister of Culture, Bogdan Zdrojewski, and the professional composition of the jury, who watched 102 artworks of 40 authors, has ensured a high level of artistic evaluation of the work submitted for competition. 62 projects of 27 authors qualified for the final exhibition.
At the post-competition exhibition at the Museum of Caricature visitors will have to confront their own"Portrait of Poles" with young artists' fresh look at the reality of life in Poland after 20 years of freedom.
