EUROPEAN IMPRESSIONS
The new exhibition in Warsaw's Museum of Caricature and Cartoon Art has been inspired by Poland's Presidency in the European Union. Reflected in a distorting mirror by Poland's most outstanding graphic artists dealing with caricature and cartoon, this occasion has been presented here, we believe, in a light and humorous manner, free of the customary fanfares and trumpeteering that must accompany other events marking our Presidency. Twelve artists present their works at this exhibition: Julian Bohdanowicz, Jacek Frankowski, Jacek Gawłowski, Zbigniew Jujka, Paweł Kuczyński, Małgorzata Lazarek, Edward Lutczyn, Andrzej Mleczko, Marek Raczkowski, Henryk Sawka, Janusz Stanny i Grzegorz Szumowski. They represent different generations, with Professor Janusz Stanny as the doyen of this society and Małgorzata Lazarek and Paweł Kuczyński as the youngest. Most of the drawings make reference to current EU issues and to Poland's presence in the EU. Some are general and symbolic in character, while most deal with specific topics and problems.
I would like to thank, first and foremost, the Authors for making their works available, then all the sponsors and media patrons of this exhibition. I am also grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will present an electronic version of this exhibition to Polish diplomatic posts in Europe and worldwide.
I hope the cartoons at the exhibition wil make you laugh and you will appreciate their sarcasm and irony. I wish you a very enjoyable experience.
