ERYK LIPIŃSKI
(1908 - 1991)

Studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts - painting, graphic design and stage design. Caricaturist, satirical writer, jurnalist, poster designer, book designer. Wrote various satirical pieces for cabarets, author of books about caricature and satire. Made his debut as caricaturist in Pobudka in 1928. In 1935, co-founded with Zbigniew Mitzner the satirical weekly Szpilki, being its chief editor in 1935-37 and 1946-53. Contributed among others to Przekrój, Przegląd Kulturalny, Trybuna Ludu, Panorama, Zwierciadło. Express Wieczorny. Initiated and was commisary of the First International Poster Biennale in Warsaw (1966). In 1978 founded the Museum of Caricature and had been its first director. Initiated the creation of SPAK (Association of Polish Cartoonists). Awarded many prestigious prizes and state distinctions, among others the Gold Pin (złota szpilka) and the Gold Pin with Laurel (złota szpilka z wawrzynem). in 1980 initiated the creation of the Commitee for the Preservation of Jewish Monuments in Poland and in 1991 received the title of the Righteous Among the Nations.
