Maja Berezowska
MAJA BEREZOWSKA
(1898 - 1978)

Studied art in Petersburg, Cracow, Munich and Paris. Painter, cartoonist, poster designer, book illustrator and stage designer. Made her debut as caricaturist in the early 20s in the weekly Szczutek. Contributed to Cyrulik Warszawski, Szpilki, Kocynder, Le Rire, Le Figaro, La Vie Parisienne. Kept prisoner in Ravensbook concentration camp, where she was taken because of her series of drawings ridiculising Hitler. After the war contributed regularly to among others: Szpilki, Przekrój, Ty i Ja. Awarded Złota Szpilka z Wawrzynem (Gold Pin with Laurel) in1968.
